Quick programming note: Tomorrow the media gets its third and final access to the OTAs this year. The OTAs end on Friday and of course next week is the three-day mini camp which will carry full access. So be sure to tune into the blog and our Twitter page (Inside_Football) for the latest starting tomorrow.
I am very curious about Guy Whimper. He seems to be the forgotten man of the Giants Oline, which somewhat understandable as he spent last year on IR with a foot injury. Before that Whimper has been a solid backup at both LT and RT, playing very solidly when called upon. He was an extra lineman in short yardage and contributed on special teams. Is Whimper healthy? Obviously we drafted William Beatty to eventually play LT, but he is unproven. Whimper certainly has the physical tools to play LT or RT, but hasn't quite brought it all together; presumably he could also play LG or RG if needed. This year is his contract year. What are your thoughts on Whimper this season? -- Peter M.
Truthfully, I’d be surprised if he makes it out of camp.
Piggy-backing the Antonio Pierce discussion, I think his worse play came after the nightclub situation. I think it took a toll on his mind and it had to be difficult to study and focus when he and his friend were both in potential trouble. With that being said, Antonio has never been an extremely talented player. He is a fairly average talent with elite preparation, instincts and leadership habits. That, I agree, should give him one or two more good years. – Jeff H.
Jeff, AP wouldn’t be human if that situation wasn’t weighing on his mind. I really do think this year fans are going to see a rejuvenated Pierce on the field.
Why is Plaxico's glaring absence not addressed? I have not heard of any attempt to bring in a replacement other than the draft. So we wait a couple of years to develop from within? Why? -- Bruce J.
Bruce, the absence HAS been addressed. Please don’t make the mistake of fearing the unknown. They should be fine at receiver without Plax. Watch the preseason games and you’ll see what I mean when I say the absence has been addressed.
