Hard to believe it, but training camp is starting to wind down here in Albany. This morning, the team was back on the field to work on a few things that probably came up from their review of the game tape when they played Carolina on Monday. Tonight, however, the team will go back to work with a full practice complete with pads.
INJURIES
DT Rocky Bernard (hamstring) was removed from the Non Football Injury list after passing his physical, and will be limited at first as he works his way back into football shape. Bernard has been on the shelf for most of the spring, at first with a shoulder ailment and most recently with a hamstring.
Not participating in the morning were Chris Snee (leg), DT Chris Canty (hamstring), DT Chris Canty, and DT Fred Robbins (knee), none of whom played in Monday’s preseason opener.
WR Steve Smith (knee), and corners Corey Webster (hop) and Aaron Ross (leg) were back in limited capacities. Of the two, Ross is said to be the furthest one away from returning fulltime. Ross needs to bounce back from what he described as a subpar 2008 season and show people that the best is still yet to come. With Terrell Thomas breathing down his neck, he could be in danger of losing his starting job if he isn’t out there soon and doesn’t show that last year was nothing more than a blip in his development.
PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS
Not too much as this morning’s session was more or less a walkthrough. Tonight is when they’ll put the pads back on and start hitting again, so we’ll have some nuggets from that session. Pat also has some quick quotes left over from Monday’s game that we will weave into the evening practice report.
COMING UP
Tonight is a full pads evening practice at 6:05 p.m. On Thursday, 8/20, they’ll have a jog-thru from 8:55 - 9:55 and then a full practice at 2:35. Friday, 8/21 is a travel day, and Saturday, 8/22 will be their road game at Chicago. After a day off on Sunday, 8/23, the team will have a practice on Monday, 8/24 at 2:35 and then on Tuesday, 8/25, they will break camp and move everything back to the Meadowlands.
