I have been a Giants’ fan since 1961 despite the fact I live up here in the frozen north. In the early 1960’s in Canada, in Ontario anyway, no sporting events were allowed on Sundays and so, our national network – CBC, used to pick up CBS games to show as an NFL Game of the Week. Since the Giants used to have a deal back then with CBS, most of the games we got were Giants’ games and so, at the tender age of 7, I became a Giants’ fan.
Fast forward to this past season, I am now 54 years old and both my sons, Dan 24, and Matt 15, are huge Giants’ fans, probably because of me. At any rate, for years as they were getting older we talked about going to Giants Stadium for a game. Matt plays football himself and so we could not go until either November or December. We looked at the schedule and decided to take in the Eagles-Giants game on Dec 7, 2008. I got my tickets online through Ticket City and booked a room at the Meadowlands Plaza hotel.
Off we went. I wish it had not been so cold that day, although it did little to detract from the experience. Seeing Giants’ Stadium as we drove up sent a chill up my spine and the first picture I took was my two sons standing outside the Stadium with the championship banner from 2007 in the background.
Although we were seated in the 300 section, our seats had great sight lines and I just marveled at the size of the stadium as well as the intensity of the fans, the wonderment of all those who were tailgating outside, and just soaking in the atmosphere of finally being at a live NFL game. My sons and I were absolutely thrilled with the experience and now want to make it an annual trek. It is a 71/2 hour drive from Ottawa…not too bad really and now that I know the way it will be something to look forward to each year.
The only negative that day was that the Eagles won as this was the first real game after Burress had committed his insane act. Anyway, hope you enjoyed reading this. == Mike N. (Ottawa, ONT, Canada )
