Giants CB Aaron Ross was hoping to be active and back at cornerback for the first time since last January.
He’ll have to keep waiting, as he was one of the Giants inactives this week.
Ross, remember, had his hamstring tighten up on him on Thursday after practice. He was held out of practice on Friday and returned in a limited capacity on Saturday.
So with Ross and Corey Webster (knee) inactive this week, that means that Kevin Dockery will probably get the start tonight in place of Webster, with Bruce Johnson rotating in at the nickel. As far as who actually “starts,” it will depend on whether the Giants open up on defense in their nickel package.
That’s not the only shocker for the Giants. They deactivated TE Darcy Johnson in favor of Bear Pascoe, the tight end they added to the roster when Antonio Pierce went on IR. Actually, that’s not too shocking considering Johnson’s blocking has been inconsistent this year and Pascoe is believed to be a better blocker.
Rounding out the rest of the Giants’ inactives: RT Kareem McKenzie (knee), WR Ramses Barden, WR Sinorice Moss, RB DJ Ware; and T Adam Koets. With McKenzie out, that means that Guy Whimper is active for the first time since October 25, 2009 against Arizona, which coincidentally happened to be the last time McKenzie was inactive for a game.
As previously reported, Will Beatty will start for McKenzie at right tackle.
The Redskins inactives are QB Rod Bartel (3rd QB), CB Kevin Barnes, OL Edward Williams, LB Alvin Bowen, LB Curtis Gatewood, OL Paul Fanaika, WR Marko Mitchell, DT Cornelius Griffin.
